“…I may be vulgar, but I tell you, my music is not.” This is as far as I can quote how Mozart defended the approval of ‘Marriage of Figaro’ in the film Amadeus.
Sensuality and creativity are two entwined forces driving this world to accomplish intricate possibilities. Without the strong drive, men will not paddle across the cold seas and reach a destination. However ways turn out, everything gets back to individual inner being, the will to go on with the mixture of mastery, expertise
and the burning desire gnawing inside like a disease.
Actually the words above are inspired by Napoleon Hill's thoughts on "Power of Sex transmutaton." Creativity is fueled by strong sexual drive before it can ignite the making of a masterpiece.
The female in all of us gave birth to Arts. For artists, there is nothing indecent about art than a bad judgment. We cannot blame the world for its diversity in culture and orientation. Today we are born knowing Nude Art is accepted as a
beautiful expression of mind’s artistic inclination. It is the foundation to serious art. When these nudes are transformed to act/arouse sexuality, you can see how fast the majority squirms away with dismay. Up to now, it is absurd to understand the whole meaning of VULGARITY in art!
THE BOUNDARY BETWEEN VULGARITY AND EROTICISM
PORN is derived from the word “prostitute/s” associated with the writings related to them in the Victorian era. In the modern age, porn usually portrays images of explicit materials to stimulate sexual arousal. EROTICA is artistic depiction of sexuality, but usually expressed with high emotional implication.
Whenever there is intended “malicious” exposition of any erotic indulgence, the boundaries begin to emerge in numerous forms. People get confused about differentiating which is artistic or not, when there is really nothing to revamp in
private viewing, right?
But the censors have ways to visually distinguish a vulgar art from the other kinds. Sometimes it takes a research to identify the mainstream flavor of sexuality in arts, while they are softened by sophisticated euphemisms to sound less disturbing… (like saying “adult” to generalize the term).
Let’s make it more scientific. Movies have ratings to comply with the censorship category. And to pass through the threshold, one “has to be” 18 years of age to
have the legal permit to watch without caution. No way, because the internet makes it easy in a matter of click. :)
To make it simple and to lessen the ache any further, hardcore pornographyshows the following:
- Close-up detail of aroused genitals
- Pelvic thrusting/penetrations
- Different sex acts
- Male climax
- Related sub acts like urination and fecal stuff
Soft Corehas less graphic content compared to hardcore, but it involves nudity and act of sex.
The question is:if you are an artist and you have the capacity to draw/paint on a
360-degree range, what is your yield to vulgarity?
My answer is this: if a sheriff picks me up barefoot one day out of publishing “something” out there, then it’s time to start believing I have done something offensive and stupid :)
Other than that, I will define vulgarity based on my pure judgment.
A lot of layman would agree, there is nothing vulgar about sexual images lurking
nowadays through visual media, except there are legalities concerning how the
materials can cause nuisance to the prudent ones.
EXPOSING A CHILD TO NUDE IMAGES:
At age 11 mentors in an art workshop would let us draw figure by imagination. I can’t deny how the boys laugh with malice, but the dominant instructor has a way of expressing how sacred nude art is to artists, the laughter faded into seriousness.
A child at age 10 can already be motivated to draw the figure. As a female at that age, drawing and sexuality is a mixture of curiosity and the whim to transform the imagination into to a beautiful artistic sketch, where every step is like an
inner world. That is how I felt about art and nudity combined.
As a mother, there is nothing wrong about rearing a child exposed to harmless nudity, like seeing a nude parent in a comfortable level to achieve positive acceptance of self-image in the future. I am talking about harmless nudity. Do not confuse it with exposing kids to sexually heavy graphic images, as this is not acceptable yet based on child’s cognitive, developmental capacities and maturity.
CLICHÉ THING CALLED “BEING PROPER”:
You could wonder all day or not necessary when you watch movies of 18th century setting. One of them is “Immortal Beloved.” How many instances the old
times emphasized the phrases like: “…it arouses passion” “…the music is dangerous” or a creation is vulgar in an era. Michelangelo’s David has even been considered porn in the past, as I encountered in an article. Throwing knickers up in the colonial times is a very indecent job for a lady club dancer; and what about the world of “Moulin Rouge”(?); and the brothels where the bohemians get the cheapest nude model for free…
The mainstream world has a way to regulate all of this. It’s either their way or
the highway…(?)
I will say again…there is always the law for being proper. You can run astray at
your will and who cares? It is this mind’s freedom, perception and drive that keeps the world revolving
and evolving. BUT freedom ends when you touch somebody else’s freedom.
